On the left, a shape representing an idea learnt by intense study of one source is shown in black with crisp edges. On the right, a comparable shape is shown, but rather than being one completely black shape, the shape is made up of many transparent, slightly different shapes. This represents a similar, perhaps fuzzier but broader mental image of the same idea, gained by widespread research.
