Here is the wrap-up of @t and @zeldman and others discussing self hosting and links: http://notes.tomhenrich.com/2011/01/own-your-data/ /cc @tommorris #indieweb/
Note that myself and Aaron Parecki are overcoming some of these UX issues with things like Indieweb Reply, syndicated conversations and smart truncenation algorithms.
Tom Morris no-one's complained about it, but I have very few followers :) I know @zeldman complained at Tantek Çelik before, I’ll try to find his article about it
joviansalak beautiful piece of kit! Have I seen that one before?
tommorris yay! I feel honoured you've taken the time to install it on Christmas Day :) So does ferocity send/receive pingbacks? Next step is to stop relying on twitter for reply/notification infrastructure.
Just watched The Hunger Games for the first time. Initial impressions are that my imagined versions of Haymitch and Snow are way better than the actors. Their Snow is far too old and beardy. Other than that it’s not too bad at all. Looking forward to the next ones.
Aaron Parecki I wish they would show you which email/number they're calling if you hav multiple. Gives it some context.
So, the #merlin ending wasn’t happy, but it was rubbish. Why was merlin some twitcher at the end?
Amazed at #HTML+, which had scribble
and audio
form input elements! http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/HTMLPlus/htmlplus_41.html
I absolutely love Averia, and use it all over my personal website. I think it is a wonderful idea, brilliantly executed. The result is surprisingly readable, and the slight “erosion” effect reminds me a lot of very early type. Many thanks for making these fonts and licensing them so freely :)
Anna Debenham perhaps that will help shut some of the “same old faces” complainers up
lkdto that would be great! It helps awesome things like the indentengine.com API exist
RP scottjenson “WebApp vs WebPage is about who is in charge: A WebApp controls its content while content controls a WebPage”
tommorris agreed. I am amazed that there is such a consumer culture in such a creative, technically-able community
aral my fondest memory of rail travel is when I got stuck in a train toilet and the nice men with crowbars had to rip it off to get me out. Some nice royal marines offered me beer (I was 13)
lkdto how about rel=me
on all your links?
My #indieweb christmas presents to you all are ownership in the form of browser extensions: https://github.com/barnabywalters/own-your-comments https://github.com/barnabywalters/IndieWeb-Reply-Browser-Extension
GREAT to hear @malarkey and Anna Debenham are doing a web business podcast next year! http://24ways.org/2012/monkey-business/
Next target for #indieweb #rewriteTheWeb: Disqus and Livefyre comment interception
davewiner I disagree that browser makers should “make sure they don’t break bootstrap apps”. They should concentrate on following specs, and markup authors should do the same.
