1. Does anyone have any experience getting serial data out of the multimeter quarter of a PeakTech 4110? Tried flicking through all modes and functions both via a cheap RS232 to USB adapter, and monitoring pins with a logic analyser, but I don’t see anything happening.

  2. Is there an institution or organisation somewhere whose explicit goal is to constantly run unit tests on basic physical phenomena, just in case, say, the gravitational constant suddenly changes or something?

  3. I’ve been back from Iceland for two weeks now, but Google Translate is still in Icelandic. Any ideas on how to fix this? Other Google services appear to have reverted to English again.

  4. Genuine question to people who a lot: does the whole “pressing buttons and making lights change colour, then printing the results out onto A4 sheets of paper which magically enable you to travel to different countries” thing ever stop feeling profoundly weird?

  5. speakers: is there a German word for German words for concepts for which there isn’t an equivalent in English/x other language? (bonus points if that word describes itself)

  6. Has there ever been a device other than modern computers which is simulataneously used for creation and consumption of culture?

  7. I need some musical help! What time signature is this clip in? It’s been rolling around in my head for the past three weeks but I can’t figure it out.

The problem seems to be around the 19-20th notes — that’s how I play it but it means there’s an extra quaver. Otherwise it could almost be alternating bars of 7/4 and 8/4. Any ideas?

  8. Aaron Parecki woah, brilliant! Love the fact you're self hosting video too — what’s your workflow for that? I was thinking of building a mandrill-backed email inbox for photo and video upload so I can post from iOS really easily

  9. @fraying I'd be fascinated to know if you have any process for handling fighter deaths at cutefight? A morbid interest sure, but it’s going to happen and was wondering if you had some special way to handle it? Virtual funeral/gravestone where former competitors can pay their respects, for example?

  10. What is it called when you subconsciously expect a UI to be somewhere it isn’t, e.g. double-tapping a word in a dead tree book to get a definition, or expecting a "like/favourite" button in, e.g, an email client?

And no jokes about obsession :) it can't just be me.

  11. Question: What Status code should I use for “You haven’t provided enough/correct information to carry out that method”? Currently I’m thinking 422 Unprocessable Entity.
